The Centre for Political and Strategic Studies (CPSS), Salahaddin University is a relatively young centre operating out of Erbil, Iraq. CPSS conducts workshops, open debates, and community outreach and engagement on a variety of issues, such as the legal crisis attendant upon the drafting of the constitution in Kurdistan, the implications of the political situation in Iraq and Kurdistan, and the role and impact of the Kurdish defence and security operations against IS. It is also a capacity-building and training centre for NGOs and national institutes on, for example, the election and the constitutional referendum. The staff has experience in working at community level on conflict transformation, human rights, humanitarian aspects and human security. In the project, CPSS will analyze the push and pull factors in their local communities and develop an HS approach by coordinating interviews and collecting data from local populations, NGOs, academics and relevant ministries and security departments.
